In early June 2024, the Shagan FEST festival was held in the picturesque village of Aktekshe, located at the foot of Mount Shagan in the Zhetisu region. The event attracted more than 400 participants of all ages, from the youngest participant aged just 5 years old to the oldest participant who is over 70 years old.

From the very early morning, residents and visitors of the Zhetysu region, representatives of youth organisations, public and private institutions, as well as sportsmen and active mountain tourism enthusiasts gathered outside Visit Zhetysu. Having placed themselves in several buses, they travelled to the festival. Amateurs from Almaty region also came to the event by private transport. Upon arrival, participants were greeted by a joyful atmosphere and anticipation of adventure. Music and fresh air created the mood of a real holiday. The head of the department took part in the opening of the festival, wishing everyone good luck and an easy climb. Then athletes and local aksakals expressed their wishes. Before the start of the ascent, the mountain guide gave a detailed briefing, explaining to the participants the rules of movement and key safety points. After that, the coach organised a warm-up to make it easier for the participants to cope with climbing the mountain and ensure safety on the route.

The Shagan FEST festival confirmed its importance for popularising mountain tourism and hiking in the Zhetisu region. The event contributed to strengthening the culture of mountain tourism and attracting new enthusiasts to an active lifestyle.

The main event of the festival was a mass ascent to Shagan Peak, which reaches 2551 metres above sea level. The total length of the ascent to the peak of Mount Shagan was about 13 kilometres, including various difficult natural obstacles. This grandiose trek combined the spirit of adventure and love for nature. Professionals and amateur mountain hikers set off, enjoying the beautiful views that opened up with every step. Despite all the difficulties associated with conquering such a height, the participants demonstrated their strength, endurance and sporting spirit. At the top of Shagan Peak, a medal ceremony was held where each climber received a well-deserved reward for their efforts

After the successful ascent and awarding of all participants, a festive lunch was waiting for the guests at the foot of the mountain, organised at the expense of the organisers. In the atmosphere of friendship and unity, the participants shared their impressions and joy of the day. The festival presented unforgettable moments filled with laughter, music and delicious food, leaving warm memories for everyone present.

The organisers of “Shagan FEST” express their gratitude to all participants and guests of the festival. This event was an important step towards popularisation of active recreation and healthy lifestyle. We hope that “Shagan FEST” will become an annual tradition, attracting more and more people to mountain hiking and ecotourism in the Zhetisu region.

Let each new year bring even more vivid impressions, friendly meetings and unforgettable adventures at “Shagan FEST”!
