Rafting on the river “Koksu”

The Koksu River, a left tributary of the Karatal River, flows in the Zhetysu region. Its length is 205 km, and it originates from the Baskan Glacier on the northwest slope of the Zhongar-Alatau, flowing into the Karatal River near the Koksu railway station. The upper part of the Koksu River valley is rocky. The riverbed is slightly winding, with steep banks ranging from 0.2 to 0.8 meters in height, and in some places from 2 to 4 meters. The width of the river’s floodplain reaches 5-10 meters. The river is fed by snow and glacial melt. The rafting season lasts from March to September. The average annual water flow near the Koksu state farm is 37 cubic meters per second. The depth of the river is 0.5-1.5 meters.
