The Zhetysu Region (Semirechye) was established on June 8, 2022, in accordance with the decree of the President of Kazakhstan dated May 4, 2022.

The region consists of 8 districts and 2 cities of regional significance:

-Aksu District — Zhansugurov

-Alakol District — Usharal

-Eskeldi District — Karabulak

-Karatal District — Ushtobe

-Kerbulak District — Saryozek

-Koksu District — Balpyk-Bi

-Panfilov District — Zharkent

-Sarkand District — Sarkand

-City of Taldykorgan

The tourist potential of the Zhetysu region is enormous:
The historical and cultural heritage of the region is of interest to enthusiasts of ethnographic tourism. Within Zhetysu, there are UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Altyn Emel and the Great Silk Road.
A wide range of opportunities for active leisure is available, including ecotourism, mountain, water, and extreme tourism.

The presence of sanatoriums for improving and maintaining health level is notable. The therapeutic waters and muds of lakes located in Zhetysu have healing effects on many bodily systems.

The unique microclimate and natural wealth allow for relaxation of both body and soul, far away from urban noise and hustle.

The city of Taldykorgan serves as the administrative center of the Zhetysu region.

The national highway A3 (Almaty – Ust-Kamenogorsk) passes through the city, with roads branching off to Tekeli and Ushtobe.

Taldykorgan has an internal airport located 12 km northeast of the city, serving as a base for the airline "Zhetysu". Regular flights to Astana and Usharal are operated from this airport.

Local transportation within the city is provided by bus services.

What to see
As the regional center, Taldykorgan is ready to offer its guests a diverse cultural leisure experience. The city boasts theaters, museums, parks, cinemas, stadiums, various monuments, and more. If you are a connoisseur of the arts, it is worth visiting the I. Zhansugurov Museum, the I. Zhansugurov Palace of Culture, the M. Tynyshbayev Historical and Local Lore Museum. If you prefer outdoor recreation and walks, the city offers the Central Park, Zhastar Park, and Veterans Park. Additionally, the nearby Turtle Mountain is a popular tourist destination.

One of the most famous sculptures is the monument "Ush Ata," erected in honor of three renowned historical figures – Eskeldy-bi, Balpyk-bi, and Kabylisa-zhyrau. Interesting landmarks include the Language Palace, House of Friendship, Schoolchildren's Palace, Sports Palace, and more. You can take a stroll along the embankment of the Karatal River.

 

Of particular note is the tallest stele in Kazakhstan, standing at 92 meters high, on which a 25-meter Kazakh flag is mounted.
