I. Zhansugurov Literary Museum

Ilyas Zhansugurov is a Kazakh poet, writer, playwright, journalist, founder of modern Kazakh literature, statesman, classic of Kazakh literature. The museum was established in 1984 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the poet’s birth. The small museum of the Zhetysu State University named after I. Zhansugurov became the foundation for the literary museum. The main purpose of the museum is to collect, store and provide materials related to the life and literary activities of the poet. The museum covers an area of 280.5 sq. meters. The museum fund includes 6073 items of scientific auxiliary and museum value. The fund contains manuscripts, photographs, books, personal belongings and the poet’s office.

The museum consists of six rooms, each of which presents a thematic exhibition:

  • Youth of the poet, adolescence;
  • Formation, development, public activity of the poet;
  • Working room of the poet;
  • Creativity of Ilyas Zhansugurov;
  • The legacy of the poet.

The building that houses the museum was built in 1907. The museum building is a monument of architecture and urban planning. The building is under state protection.
