Korin Gorge
The Kora Gorge is located in the eastern part of the Dzungarian Alatau. The huge gorge of the Kora River, located from east to west, has a length of 90 km. The northern slopes of the gorge have beautiful rocky outcrops, which in some places are grandiose vertical walls.
In one of these places a beautiful waterfall, one of the largest in Kazakhstan, comes down from a great height. This gorge is the richest in diverse vegetation compared to other gorges of Dzungarian Alatau.
Despite its popularity among tourists, the Korin gorge still retains its pristine purity. In the Korin Gorge one can observe a huge variety of flora and fauna. The plant world counts more than 3000 names, including edelweiss. The famous Sivers apple tree also grows here. The gorge is inhabited by the endemic of Dzungarian Alatau – Semirechensk frog-tooth, a very rare and endangered species. There are also stoats, foxes, bears, wolves and snow leopards. Korin Gorge is the most visited gorge of Dzungarian Alatau at the moment. The gorge reaches its maximum height at the top with the height of 3919 meters.
The Korin Gorge is deep throughout its entire length, with depths of 700-800 m in its lower reaches. It is narrow, the river occupies almost the entire valley bottom. In the middle reaches the gorge widens, its depth reaches 1000 meters. In the high-mountain part of the gorge the depth reaches 1200 meters.
There are interesting tourist natural sights in the Korin gorge, such as the highest waterfall in Kazakhstan – Burkhan-Bulak, the picturesque lake “Silver hoof”, the largest in Kazakhstan separately lying stone “Aulie tas”, an unusual waterfall called “Weeping rocks” or “Weeping wall” and others.
