Unique sand dune – Singing barchan
The natural monument of republican significance “Singing Barkhan” is located in the territory of the state national natural park “Altyn-Emel” on the open stony plain between the mountains Bolshoy and Maly Kalkan. It is 3 km long and 150 m high.
Strong wind and movement of sand on the slopes causes a rumble inside the barchans, similar to the sound of a jet airplane engine. In a normal wind, the top of the barchan as if smoking from the sandy pozemka. Curiously, the barkhan does not migrate across the plain, despite the shakiness of the sand and strong winds, but remains in place for several millennia The nature of the origin of the sounds of the barkhan has been studied by many scientists, but no single clue has been found.
The administration of the park "Altyn-Emel" is located in the village of Basshi. The distance from the city of Taldykorgan is 120 km. The road is asphalted, so you can get there by almost any car. On the territory of the park itself the road is unpaved.
There are several guesthouses in the National Park and in the village of Basshi. There you will be provided not only accommodation, but also meals. There are also bivouac meadows for tent camps on the territory of the park.
