The Akyn Sara Memorial Museum
The Akyn Sara Memorial Museum was opened in 1993 in the village of Kapal in the Aksu District to mark the 115th anniversary of the poetess. Its total area is 210 square meters. The number of the library materials is over 330, 180 of which form the basic stock. There you can find exhibits narrating of the life and work of this unique woman, about the aitys of Akyn Sara and Birzhan Sal, and about the disciples and followers of the famous poetess.
The Akyn Sara Museum – the first and only museum in Zhetysu dedicated to a woman – consists of four halls. The exposition of one of them tells of the time at which the people’s poetess lived. You can find women’s clothing and numerous silver ornaments such as rings, bracelets, and earrings. The valuable museum exhibits are a mechanical sewing machine and scissors that belonged to Sara. Among the spiritual richness of the museum there is a collection of songs, where they number more than a thousand today. Akyn Sara’s life path was rather short, but it was long enough for the legends to be composed of her, for the places associated with her name to become deeply revered and frequently visited by the posterity.
