The Cherkasai Gorge
It is hard to imagine how many mysterious things are kept in the unique natural corners of our vast country. One of such places is the Cherkasai Gorge. It is located 70 kilometers from Taldykorgan and stretches along the central ridge of Zhongar-Alatau, at an altitude of 1550 meters above sea level. The gorge is very long, the river with the same name flows in cascades, forming small lakes. The picturesque glade of the gorge is surrounded on all sides by century-old trees.
This is where the longest street of Tekeli leads. People come here not only to relax and admire the nature, but also to see the old mines, which used to produce ore. There are a lot of mines here. They were built almost a hundred years ago, when there were not these modern technologies, techniques and materials. And they are still standing, despite the fact that they have been abandoned for decades. But you should never climb into them. They can emit poisonous gases, which is deadly.
