The spring «Tamshybulak»

5/5

For its appearance, some call it «Tears of the Earth» or «Weeping Spring», because the water flows down the emerald from moss slope down in small drops, as if crying.

Many famous people have visited this spring: Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, Shokan Ualikhanov, Ilyas Zhansugurov, Dinmukhamed Konaev.

In 1848, the English traveler artist Thomas Atkinson and his wife Lucy stayed in these parts. The painter lived in Kazakhstan for more than seven years, of which he spent a year in Kapala. Here he painted many canvases dedicated to the local nature, life and way of life of the Kazakh people. In this region, his only son was born, whom the couple named Alatau-Tamshibulak.

According to the stories of local residents, the child was born weak, and he managed to survive largely due to the healing properties of the spring. Lucy often bathed in the magical waters of her son’s spring.

In winter, steam rises from the bottom of the ravine where the spring is located. Snow lies everywhere, but here it is eternal summer, and the cold is not felt at all.

Today, as before, people come to the Tamshybulak spring with faith in its miraculous power, with the hope of healing.
