Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov was established as Taldykurgan Pedagogical Institute in October 1972. In 1973, 225 students studied at 2 faculties — Philology and Physics and Mathematics. There were 5 departments, where 25 teachers worked.In 1977, the Institute was named after I. Zhansugurov. In 1994, the university was transformed into Taldykorgan University named after I. Zhansugurov in June 1994. In the same year, on the occasion of the poet’s 100th anniversary, a monument to Zhansugurov was erected on the square in front of the university, on two large natural stones with a diameter of 8-9 meters, laid on top of each other, where, according to the plan of the author of the project T. Dosmagambetov, he is represented sitting on a large stone.Since 1999, the educational institution has been renamed Zhetysu State University named after I. Zhansugurov.
